Liberty Jail

So the original Liberty Jail is no longer standing but they know the place where it used to be and put a visitor center on it. For some reason I thought it would be outside of town in the middle of nowhere but I was completely wrong. It is right in the middle of town. The town is pretty much centered around it just like everything else in the area. It was a little hard to get the RV to the place because the roads are so small but it all worked out.

This picture shows how tall it was down in the basement and the conditions. If you look at the bottom of the picture you can kind of see how thick the walls were. They were about five feet thick. There was a layer of wood then a layer of loose rock, and then the outside wall. So it was impossible to escape.

This is the whole of the inside of the jail. Very dark, no windows except for little crack like windows to get food and air through.

My father in law, and then right behind him the so called window down by the floor.

Gabe and Skyler

This is the front door of the jail. Behind this door there is another door. Both doors lock from the outside and so when you were on duty you were locked into the jail and couldn't get out until your relief came with the key, when in turn you would lock them into the jail. This kept people from escaping.

Us outside where you were hit by a heat wave when you walked outside. You can't live without air conditioning in this place.
